My beloved dog Carmela was sent to her doggie heaven on Martin Luther King Day this year. I am not usually one to be lost for words, but it has been hard to find words to say goodbye to Carmela. And perhaps I didn't find the words because it's not about words. It's about those beautiful brown eyes that looked at me with such unquestioning love. It's about that magnificent tail which greeted me so warmly every time I came home. It's about those long, excitement-filled walks we took together on the ditch. It's about the trials and tribulations of sickness and recovery, and how she never stopped being happy and grateful. It's about a very special bond, and a very special dog. We had a great time together, and for that I am so grateful. So now, be good Carm, and rest in peace.
