Happy Halloween!

Fritz and I took our walk on the ditch this morning in costume. We met Sheryl walking Poppy and Wiley who were fascinated by Fritz. The three dogs were cordial to each other, though I could tell that Fritz would have been happier without a costume. Later we met Denise walking Rosie and Lily. Lily growled at Fritz. She was very interested in him, I guess she had never seen a dog in costume.
On our way home we met Tom walking Bailey, a seven month old Beagle puppy. Bailey was absolutely adorable and very friendly.

Dogs of October

I've met several new dogs this month.  They all have good stories. I enjoyed hearing from Carol about what it's like to have a seven month old Golden Retriever puppy. Beth had to put fencing around the trees in their yard so Simon wouldn't chew on them. Then there was the story of how Lucky, a young black lab found Terry while she was jogging on the ditch. Lucky followed her home and a week later she ended up adopting him.  There's also the story about Honey, a Laguna Pueblo stray that was rescued and taken to the Grants prison program where she was trained and then was adopted by Judy. Now Honey is a therapy dog.
Today in the NY Times there was an unusual story about a dog that escaped death row. Here's the link to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/28/us/dogs-tale-from-death-row-to-doorstep.html?_
I invite anyone who has a dog that is featured in this blog to send me their dog's story and I will post it.
See you on the ditch!

A Letter to Maisie

Dear Maisie,

I remember the day I brought you home from the pound, curled in a ball and nonresponsive.  You stayed that way for weeks! I had to bring you food and water.  I had to carry you outside to go to the bathroom--it broke my heart to see how you trembled when you were in the yard.

I promised you I would care for you even if you never, ever responded to me.

Over time our wonderful cat, Blackie, worked his magic and brought you back to life.

We’ve been together for 7 years now; what a privilege it has been to get to know your kind and gentle spirit, and watch you learn to trust and love the world.

I love you, little Mai!  Thank you for coming into my life!

Sandra

Founders' Day Pet Parade, October 5, 2013

We had a great turnout last Saturday. Thirty people showed up with their dogs for the pet parade.
A big thank you to everyone who showed up and all the people who helped with the event.
Below are some of the photos with more to follow next week.
